(catastrophe)(January 1 1964)(Shonbeck or Hawyer Gldg fire, 4th and F street. Southeast corner. At this time it was called the Hawyer bldg and was apts with a flower shop, the Jade room bar and restaurant on the main floor. Bldg was in 1918 the Anchorage Labor Temple; in the 20's Art Shonbeckbought the building and it had apts upstairs and a garage on the main floor, and I think he was the Ford dealer at the time . It burned Juan 1 1964 only a couple of months ahead of the disasterous earthquake.{firemen on scene of burning building}
