Administrative/Biographical History:
Kenneth Fleshman worked at the Alaska-Juneau Mine for one summer, in 1926. Shirley Hyde
(later Hood) took a trip up the Inside Passage in 1937. Neither spent further time in Alaska.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of 25 black-and-white photographs taken or collected by Kenneth
Fleshman during the summer on 1926, depicting the A-J Mine, Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier,
and totem poles in Southeast Alaska and British Columbia. There are also 15 black-and-white
photographs and 11 postcards created or collected by Shirley Hyde during a trip up the Inside
Passage on the Alaska Steamship Company’s S.S. Dorothy Alexander in the summer of 1937,
along with tickets, menus, passenger lists, brochures, and other ephemera she collected. For

Processing Note
Most of the Inside Passage materials had been removed from scrapbook pages before
acquisition. A few items were mounted on individual loose pages. These items were removed
from the pages at the time of processing. Newspaper clippings were photocopied and the
originals discarded.
