Administrative/Biographical History:
Grace C. Tucker was a securities broker-dealer in Anchorage and owned or co-owned several
properties in the city at the time of the Good Friday Earthquake of March 27, 1964. Properties
owned included the Four Seasons Apartments, the Verde Lane Apartments, and at least three
small houses.
Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of a typescript letter, dated April 3, April 30, and May 5, 1964, signed
by Grace Tucker and addressed to “Dear Folks.” This copy was sent to E.E. Hinsdale of Seattle,
Washington. The letter records Grace’s impressions of the event in six legal-size pages of
detailed description about the destruction, the experiences of her brother George and her sister-
in-law Carol (who was shopping in J.C. Penney at the time of the quake), and damage sustained
by her rental properties.
