Administrative/Biographical History:
Bill Frye was working at Alaska Sales and Service and Ellyn was a school teacher in
Anchorage at the time of the earthquake. Ellyn Frye died in 1990.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of a typescript letter, dated April 3, 1964, signed by Bill and Ellyn Frye
and sent to Ellyn’s mother in California. It records their impressions of the event in three pages
of detailed description about the destruction, people’s responses to the disaster, and activities by
the community at large.
