Administrative/Biographical History:
Aniguiin, as known as Charley Saccheus, was born about 1864 on the Golsovia River in
Alaska. According to his grandson, Charley Saccheus, he was a great seal hunter who provided
for his community. He is considered to be one of the founders of Elim, and the school there is
named after him. He died around 1953.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of one 8” x 10” black-and-white copy print of a portrait photograph of
Aniguiin, probably taken in Elim, Alaska.

Donated by great granddaughter Alice Cantrell. Accompanied a net gauge, donated by Alice
Cantrell’s sister, Bonnie Saccheus in 1989. Photograph transferred to the archives in 2012.
