Administrative/Biographical History:
Eugene C. Jack traveled to Alaska in the 1920s and served with the U.S. Navy building radio
towers. He was also an amateur photographer.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of 35 black-and-white photographs of Alaskan scenes of the 1910s and
1920s, depicting town life, fishing, whaling, fur trade, and transportation. Also included are a
bound volume of self-published essays by Eugene Jack and an essay on “The Alaska fur seals,”
presumably by Jack.

Restrictions on Access: The collection is open for research use.

Physical Access: Original items in good condition. Book of essays on brittle paper;
photocopying may be limited.
