Administrative/Biographical History:
Alice Pitcher lived in the Chicago area in the 1870s. She is listed in the 1880 census as a 47-
year-old resident of Chebanse, IL, who was born in Ohio. She does not appear in other
censuses.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of five studio portrait photographs of a woman presumed to be Alice
Pitcher.

Acquisition and Appraisal Information
Donated by Stan Walker, grandson of Alice Pitcher, along with a collection of women’s
clothing and accessories dating from the 1860s to the 1940s. The dress worn by Alice in
photographs 3 and 4 is included in the collection.
