Name of creator(s): Johnny M. Sartor

Administrative/Biographical History:
Johnny Sartor was born in Waco, TX, in September 1942. In 1962, he joined the United States
Air Force; after basic training in San Antonio, TX, he was assigned to Elmendorf Air Force
Base in Anchorage, AK. A member of the Elmendorf drill team, he participated in the
Anchorage Fourth of July parade in 1963. After the Alaska Earthquake of 1964, martial law
was declared in Anchorage and many military personnel were deployed around the city. Sartor
assisted in retrieval of earthquake victims.

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of four print photos of the Fourth of July parade in Anchorage in 1963,
showing Fourth Avenue; 16 color slides of Anchorage after the Alaska Earthquake of 1964; and
one menu, from the Denali Grill and Restaurant in Anchorage.
