B80.108. Inventory.

Will Lockwood and his father Willard Lockwood came to Alaska to find their fortune. Willard
Sr. had been in Alaska previously, prior to 1890. Lockwood took photographs depicting the gold
rush days and tent city in the area of Juneau. Lockwood died in 1899 at the age of 21 when he
drowned. He was attempting to rescue a boat that had slipped its moorings in Juneau. Records
from the Evergreen Cemetery in Juneau show that Lockwood died on September 12, 1898 and
was buried three days later.

The collection consists of 41 photographs ranging from 1890 to 1899. The photographs include
several photographs of the Steamship Ancon, Fort Wrangle, Treadwell Mines, Sitka, and
Chilkoot Pass. Several photographs of the Tlingit Native Alaskan People are in the collection,
including photographs of Tlingit Totem Poles, and dwellings. Also included are photographs of
St. Michael’s Church in Sitka, Muir Glacier, Lake Bennett, and pack trains. The photographs
were take by photographers Frank Jay Haynes, Will H. Lockwood (uncle of Mrs. W.H. Wells),
and Partridge. The collection is arranged in number order. Please see photo list for specific
