Scope and Contents

The Butler collection consists of 60 photographs ranging in date from the 1930’s
to 1952. The collection includes photos of Alaska Nellie and her home, Ketchikan, the
Russian Orthodox Church in Unalaska, Sitka, near Kuskokwim River, and Kodiak,
Alaskan Eskimo Dance photos, and Native Alaskan graves. There are also photographs of
steamships, Mt. McKinley National Park, Wrangell in 1933, Seward, Valdez, and Sitka.
A photograph of “Moose Gooser Jr.”, Engine No. 1 in 1951 is also in the collection. The
photos in the collection are housed in the photo file section under different subject
