Administrative/Biographical History:
Grover Fireoved was born in Eden, Ohio, in 1889. With his wife Alitha, he homesteaded 160
acres of land bounded generally by Bragaw Street, Debarr Street, Russian Jack hill, and the
Glenn Highway. The Fireoveds subdivided the land to form Wonder Park Subdivision. Within
the subdivision was Wonder Park, a gathering place for residents. The Fireoveds arranged
Eskimo dances and blanket toss activities at the park and at their home during Fur Rendezvous
in the 1950s. Grover worked in real estate and operated the public skating rink. Alitha worked
as an accountant and was active in the Anchorage Toastmistress Club, of which she was the
founding president. Grover died January 3, 1964. Alitha died in 2000 or 2001.
