Administrative/Biographical History:
Charles Nelson Pray was born in Potsdam, New York, in 1868. He attended Middlebury College and the
Chicago College of Law. Pray was admitted to the Montana bar in 1892 and began a private law
practice in 1896. He was elected Choteau County Attorney in 1898. After serving four terms as County
Attorney, Pray was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1906. He died in 1963.1

Scope and Content Description:
The collection consists of two black-and-white photographs taken in Anvik circa 1892. For

Donated by Montana Historical Society in June 1977. The MHS received them from the estate
of Judge Pray in 1965.
