The Aleutian Campaign was a struggle over the Aleutian Islands of Alaska during World War II
The Japanese attacked the town of Dutch Harbor (Unalaska) on June 3, 1942, and invaded the
islands of Kiska and Attu on June 6 and 7, respectively. As a response, a US air base was set up
on Adak Island in August 1942. The battle to recapture Attu Island began on May 11, 1943, with
US forces regaining the island by May 30. Japanese forces abandoned Kiska on July 28, 1943.

The Aleutian Campaign photographs contain 47 photographs with matching negatives of scenes,
events, and people related to the Aleutian Campaign during WWII. Photographs include pictures
of the Invasion of Attu, Japanese planes, and the landing party at Massacre Beach. Photos at and
of Amchitka, Kiska, Akutan, Attu, and Adak Islands, the Battle of Kamamdorski, the Conference
of the U.S. and Canadian Army and Navy Chiefs before landing on Kiska, as well as several
