Nothing was known about the dancers or the photographer at the time of processing.

Scope and Content Description:
One black-and-white photograph enlargement, measuring 11” x 14”. Caption on verso:
“Copper River Indians, of Athapaskan stock, performing tribal ceremonies welcoming dance at
Matanuska Valley Fair, 5 Sept. 1955.”

The image shows two men, wearing tunics and feather headdresses, dancing outdoors. One
man holds a drum; the other holds feather dance fans. At AFN in 2015, the men were
identified as Ahtna Indians. The man at left was tentatively identified as Ben Neeley, and the
man at right as surname Kelsey.
